The property industry aims to achieve a 4 to 4.5 star National Australia Built Environment Rating Scheme (NABERS) energy rating in new buildings.

However, many existing buildings, including Rialto, will require substantial capital improvements to achieve this rating. Rialto's management commissioned an Audit to assess the best options for improving the energy rating of the building. The Audit found that a 4.5 star energy rating could be achieved, although further assessment of the implementation options was required. The report on these options has been completed and the building owners are assessing the recommendations with a view to implementing a capital works program.

Mandatory Disclosure
Mandatory disclosure legislation, requiring all building owners and tenants wishing to sell, lease or sub-lease buildings or space over 2,000 square metres to provide interested parties with a Building Energy Efficiency Certificate, has been introduced by the Federal Government. The purpose of mandatory disclosure is to provide interested parties with consistent, credible, comparative and meaningful information about energy efficiency and CO2 emissions with an aim of creating more efficient workplaces. Rialto is presently awaiting issue of its first NABERS Base Building Energy Rating.
