Environmental sustainability is a critically important issue for all societies. As one of Australia's leading commercial properties, Rialto recognises the responsibility building owners have for reducing the environmental impacts of their operations and is currently implementing a number of initiatives to reduce energy and water use and cut greenhouse gas production.

As the building's overall environmental performance is significantly
dependent on the operations of tenants, Rialto also works
collaboratively with tenants to reduce environmental impacts. Further
information for tenants wishing to introduce or extend environmental
programs is available here.

Rialto's management is committed to achieving high standards in
environmental performance and will continue to identify opportunities
to reduce the environmental impact of the building.

Energy
The property industry aims to achieve a 4 to 4.5 star National
Australia Built Environment Rating Scheme (NABERS) energy rating in
new buildings. Many existing buildings, including Rialto, will
require substantial capital improvements to achieve this rating and
management is currently reviewing a Detailed Facility Study (DFS),
commissioned from Honeywell, which reports on options for improving
the energy rating of the building.

Water
Rialto is continuing the progressive replacement of the existing
11 litre flush toilet bowls with 4.5 litre systems. These replacements
will reduce water consumption for toilet use by almost two thirds.

Waste Management and Recycling
Annually, Rialto's full co-mingled recycling program collects in
excess of 450 tonnes of recyclable materials which would previously
have been deposited in landfill.

Lighting
Lighting is often responsible for significant power consumption within
a building. Rialto is currently replacing the standard T8 light
fittings with more energy efficient T5 fittings and is working with
tenants to reduce the number of light fittings within tenancies.
